Second Avenue Songmakers Workshop

The ASCAP Foundation – Tisch School of the Arts Second Avenue Songmakers is an 8 week songwriting workshop for elementary children Grades 1-4.  These 8 two-hour sessions will introduce children to the art and craft of songwriting while encouraging freedom of thought and the creative impulse.  Using a collaborative model adapted from The Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program’s other longstanding community programs, the children will work with ASCAP members who will lead them through the process of writing original songs.

The workshops will consist of games, singing, and writing activities that will focus on inspiration, rhyming, rhythm and melody, song forms, styles, and end in a presentation of songs for family and friends.

Every child will have the opportunity to collaborate with other workshop participants and with songwriting professionals to create songs.  At the end of the 8 week workshop, each child will have copies of the music and a recording of the songs they’ve have helped create.

Courses are held from 10a.m.-12:00p.m. each Saturday starting March 1 – April 19 at the Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, 113 Second Avenue, 1st floor (between 6th and 7th street).

For information and to enroll, please call Julianne at 212-998-1830.

The grant for these courses is generously funded from The ASCAP Foundation Irving Caesar Fund.
