Biography

Sarah Schlesinger and Grammy Award winner Mike Reid have written the score for a new musical, Casanova Returns, which was showcased in Cardiff, Wales at the Global Search for New Musicals.  Plans are currently in the works for the world premiere of Casanova Returns in Mexico City in November of 2011.  They also wrote book, music and lyrics for In This House, a new chamber musical in collaboration with director and bookwriter Jonathan Bernstein. In This House premiered at Playhouse West in January, 2008. Sarah 's musical Ballad of Little Jo, written with  Mr. Reid was produced at Steppenwolf as its first musical to celebrate its 25th Anniversary and subsequently opened to rave reviews at the Bridewell Theatre in London. The teams has also written Different Fields, which was commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera Guild and Prairie Songs commissioned by the Amernet Quartet. Sarah was also the lyricist librettist for Love Comics which premiered at the George Street Playhouse, produced by Daryl Roth, and Swing Shift at the Manhattan Theatre Club. She has been the recipient of the Kleban Award for Best Lyricist, The Richard Rodgers Award, a Gilman-Gonzalez Falla Theatre Foundation Award, a Jeff Award for best original musical, the David Payne Carter Teaching Award and a University Distinguished Teacher Award. Works currently in progress include Blueberry Pie with Jonathan Bernstein and Magic with David Evans.
