Children of Salt
A New Musical
Music by Jaime Lozano
Book and Lyrics by Lauren Epsenhart
Based on the Play “Los Niños de Sal” by Hernán Galindo
The story of Children of Salt is based on the biblical anecdote of Lot’s wife turning to a pillar of salt when looking back at Sodom and Gomorrah. The piece opens on a beach in Mexico. Raúl, a successful businessman, has come back home after an absence of twenty years away. He has received a phone call from a childhood friend informing him that his estranged grandmother is dying. Once he is back on the beach, he is thrown into a whirlwind of memories, all of which, in some way or another, have brought him back home, including the death his best friend, and the loss of young love. As the piece progresses, the line between what is memory and what is reality is blurred. Raúl must distinguish between the two before it is too late or he will be unable to break free of the chains that are binding him, becoming a “child of salt”.
Duration: One act, 90 min.
